Legal Marijuana In D.C.

DC Legalizing Pot, Ignoring House Republicans

Our nation's capital, Washington DC, has decided to look past House Republican's pleas and legalize the possession of marijuana. With this, residents of the District of Columbia are allowed to possess 2 ounces of marijuana. While selling it is still illegal, as is public smoking, it would be allowed to transfer up to 1 ounce to another person. All included parties must be 21 to smoke marijuana.

One very important aspect to this legalization is that people now have the right to grow their own marijuana plants at home. Anyone of legal age that so desired could grow up to six pot plants in their own backyard. This is great news for many people, because this can really take the danger and sketchiness of dealing with a "drug dealer" out of the picture. With this, marijuana can be seen as simply a plant you can grow for yourself at home instead of a dangerous drug from the streets. Growing your own pot ensures that you know that the plant is clean and safe to use.

Many are lead to believe that the legalization of marijuana in the nation's capital will lead to a national legalization. The government could potentially save billions of dollars by ending its war against marijuana and taxing it instead, like alcohol.
